ABOUT US | Distant Bells Pink Floyd revival band
.: Who we are
We are revival band from Brno - Czech Republic playing music of famous Britisch band Pink Floyd. The band formed in November 2003 and since then we have played dozens of gigs across the Czech Republic and several times abroad (Poland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia)
Distant Bells band's repertoire consists of the entire production of Pink Floyd. We play songs from all albums by Pink Floyd, the psychedelic period, hence the second half the 60's (debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, as the single "Arnold Layne"), long compositions ("Atom Heart Mother", "Echoes"), the entire album The Dark Side Of The Moon, as well as songs from the last studio album The Division Bell. The repertoire also includes several tracks from solo albums of David Gilmour and Rick Wright. Our performance may be accompanied video projections. We've prepared Pink Floyd Unplugged for little clubs and small stages.
.: Brief history
The Distant Bells band was founded on 3rd November, 2003 originally as a live band for theatre play called "The Pink Floyd Odyssei" written by Premek Dofek and Karl Carbol. Founding members were: Premek Dofek (g,voc), Ondra Bystry (sax, keyb,g,voc), Honza Vokurka (keyb), Libor Treska (g,voc), Milan Zink (bg), Kuba Sedlak (ds,voc), Iva Macikova (voc). Before the first performance Libor Treska became the sound engineer and his possition was taken by Honza Sysel (g,perc, voc). The first concert was performed on 9 May, 2004 In 7 and half theatre.
We have desperately looked for some new vocalists. On 21 and 22 June, 2004 Marketa Sedlackova singed along with Iva but she left the band after these performances. Special light effects and video projection has been directed by Pavel Drlik. Another important person, Vojta Kala, has helped us as a technician and second sound engineer. Kamil "Kimi" Fedr, talented young photographer, shot many pictures during our shows. Premek together with Honza cut a brand new video projection for our live concerts. In summer 2004 we decided to call our group DISTANT BELLS. In September 2004 the band was finally joined by two vocalists, Katka Hanakova and Lucka Horakova.
2005.. we are preparing acoustic show called The Pink Floyd Unplugged for clubs and smaller stages. Unfortunatelly Iva Macikova, one of our founding members, left the group....:(
Summer 2006. We hace recorded a demo, but unfortunattely it took over one yer to finish mastering. Jana Ondrakova - new vocalist joined the band. We've appered on first vol. of 'Rock Legends Night' in Svatoboj organized by Pavel Lojda, our unplugged concerts in Stara Pekarna club became a tradition. Keyoboard player Honza Vokurka had married and left the band. Our friend Filip Sokol got on for few concerts.
2006/2007: Stable line-up of the band finally? New drummer Vojta Bystry, keyboard player Honza Mendelson and vocalist Nada Sterzelova. Thanks to idea of Pavel Karas we've prepared a show called 'Pink Floyd under the stars' in Observatory in Brno. Concert is accompanied by video projection and light effects. The main merit of good sound belongs to sound engineer Martin Stepanek.
2008:We have more and more concerts and we are very glad that you all enjoyed our shows:-). This year final unplugged concert in Stara Pekarna club was such a great evening with our former band members appered on the stage - Libor, Lucka and Honza. Do you enjoyed jazz-like version of Money with brass section?
2009: After the great experience with the observatory in Brno we decided that observatory will become our home scene in Brno. The observatory is a great place for Pink Floyd music and the video projections, which move our concerts to another level.
2010: We finally solved our problem with making a concert in our capital city. In May we tried our first concert in club Vagon. The success was amazing. Since then we play in Prague each month. We found stable friends and concerts in Pilsen too. Promoters in Pilsen always amaze us with their perfect technical background. Because Czech Republic has become too little for us, we managed to make contacts in Germany. After our first concert, we play in Germany and Austria regularly.
2011: We started to play our concerts in Brno in Metro Music Club. We played here our first concert in February and after the gig we immediately agreed with the owner about our regular concerts. Our vocalist Naďas has a baby named Ondra! Our great joy is just a little bit spoiled with a fact that Naďa won´t sing with us for some time. Fortunately we found a very talented singer Petra Bauer Horská who bravely substituted Naďa. After eight years we had to say goodbye to our bass player Milan Zink. We can denied that it was very sad for us. We are looking for a suitable replacement and it seems almost impossible.
2012: Our searching is over. The band welcomed our new bass player Ondra Klusáček. For our first time we played in Jihlava in Soul club. After a long reconstruction of Observatory in Brno we arranged two concerts in march an april.
